At Keldmarsh Primary School, we recognise the importance of children expressing themselves and gaining an understanding of the wider world through music. We provide children with the opportunities to play musical instruments and to perform in a variety of settings to support their progressions in performance. Links to the local music hub, with the wider opportunities programme in Year 4, allows the children to have access to tailored music teaching from a speicliast focussing on learning the djembe drums and further developing their use of the glockenspiels. 

We use Charanga to provide a progressive music curriculum in which the children are able to explore different genres of music from a range of historical periods. All children have the opportunity to listen and review a variety of music, to perform, evaluate and sing and explore the world of composition as an individual or as part of a  group. Each half term, one year group has the opportunity to share their music performance with the whole school in the singing assembly. The knowledge and skills taught within the curriculum supports the children to develop their sense of self, sense of others and sense of the world.
